If your goal is to set up a data center, then you should know that you will require meticulous planning to run a technological hub like a data center. You will be overlooking important IT infrastructure to provide services and resources to customers, business partners, and business employees around the globe.

Usually, small businesses can dedicate a closet or a room to implement a data center. However, a bigger business requires a large space to support the various aspects that are part of a data center.

Here are the main aspects of a data center.

Dedicated Space

It all starts with having a dedicated space to run the data center. You will be housing massive IT infrastructure that your business wants to deploy in the present but also in the future. On that note, choose a site with proper access and affordable taxes as the data center, as you will be accommodating various types of IT infrastructure.

Sufficient Power

Of course, you cannot run a data center without enough power. To operate all the IT infrastructure, you will often need as much as a hundred megawatts. More importantly, the power you choose should be absolutely reliable, as you cannot afford disruptions or fluctuations. Make sure to include supplemental power on site.

Speaking of reliability, you can avail of hydrogen for data centers, as hydrogen can store more power in a smaller volume, which makes it ideal for data centers that have limited space.

Conceptual Design

Once you have the dedicated space, you can come up with your conceptual design while moving to the next steps of space planning and layout design. Make sure to design the data center in a way that fits the unique needs of your business. Also, use the right building materials while you are at it.

Optimal Security

When it comes to running a data center, you cannot avoid the integration of optimal security. Think about the potential value of the massive data that you are storing in the IT infrastructure. In the case of a data breach, you are prone to losing everything, which is why you must integrate controlled data access through various strategies, including video surveillance and multiple-step employee identification.

Proper Management

It is nearly impossible to run a data center without integrating a proper management system. For instance, you can integrate a dedicated BMS, which stands for building management system, as a sure way to help your employees or managers oversee that data center and areas in real-time.

Proper management of a data center includes so much more than building surveillance. It includes the real-time assessment of cooling levels, humidity levels, temperature, and power as well.

Enough Cooling

Data centers use a whole lot of power that covers computing, and the enormous amount of heat must constantly be removed from the data center with the help of smoothly running HVAC systems. With the help of conventional and unconventional cooling systems, a data center can maintain a good temperature for the effectiveness of networking tools and equipment.

If you use air conditioning units in your data center, you might need proper air systems to remove heat from the data center.
